"IN-EI" means "shadow, shading, nuance" in Japanese. The art of light has a conceptual and technological history at Miyake Design Studio, dating back to 2010, when Issey Miyake and his research and development team Reality Lab., presented "132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE". This new process was developed by Jun Mitani using a mathematical program with three-dimensional geometric formulas. "132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE" is an ingenious method of creating clothing and an example of what research into textile materials and technologies can achieve. The project, where creativity and mathematical analysis meet, is based on a special fabric capable of assuming and maintaining 3D shapes starting from a single piece of fabric. Reality Lab. first explored the potential of "132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE" in the world of clothing and then moved on to the world of light. IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE was born from the encounter between Artemide's expertise in the world of light and Reality Lab.'s innovative approach to materials and design. IN-EI ISSEY MIYAKE created by Artemide is a collection of pendant, table and floor lamps; their shadows created using mathematical principles, in 2 or 3 dimensions, are crossed by thin and beautiful luminous nuances. The inimitable folds, which determine the plastic shapes and solidity of the lamps, are made with an original technology, created by Issey Miyake. Thanks to the recycled material they are made of, which has a luminous transparency superior to that of paper, these lamps maintain their shape perfectly without requiring any internal structure: the folding process, in fact, creates statuesque volumes that are sufficiently solid, which can be remodeled without problems. When not in use they can be stored folded
